The 16-19 Bursary Fund and Free School Meals scheme can provide financial support to help some students in their learning.
Schools are responsible for awarding bursaries to students, deciding the amounts, dates of payments and setting conditions that students should meet in order to receive payments.
Please note that the information below may be subject to change following guidance from the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Any changes will be updated on our website.
The Bursary scheme is made up of two parts:
- A payment of up to £1,200 to a small group of the most vulnerable students who fall into one of the following categories:
Young people who are, or who have recently been, looked after children in the care of the Local Authority or foster parents
Young people who receive Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
Disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit and either Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments in their own name.
- Discretionary payments awarded to students with successful applications. Applications will only be successful if students are in receipt of targeted free school meals and/or expanded Free School Meals if total household assessed income is £30,000 or below, including Universal Credits, and the student provides sufficient indication of how the funds are to be spent.

Bursary application packs for the new academic year will be available to collect from the Sixth Form Office from 1 September. The deadline for applications to be returned is 1 October.
To qualify for Free School Meals parents/carers should be in receipt of one or more of the following:
- Universal Credit
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
- The “Guaranteed” element of the State Pension Credit
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
