Careers - Parent/Carer Area

We recognise the vital role that parents, carers and families play in helping students navigate decisions about their future. We encourage regular positive discussions at home to help guide your child toward a fulfilling future. These discussions do not have to be about setting a future pathway, but exploring your child's strengths, interests and being open to opportunities.

Some practical ways that families can support young people with careers and employability are:

Explore Favourite Subjects: Discuss which subjects they enjoy most and explore why those areas appeal to them.

Recognize Classroom Skills: Help them identify transferable skills developed at school, such as communication, initiative and teamwork.

Value beyond the classroom: Connect skills like resilience, discipline, and timekeeping to their hobbies, clubs, and sports.

Encourage Future Ambitions: Ask open questions about their interests and aspirations for the future.

Discover Pathways Together: Research potential career sectors and local labor market trends as a family.

Utilize Unifrog: Log into Unifrog together to track achievements, log core skills, and save helpful career guides.

Tap Into Personal Networks: Invite family and friends to share their own career journeys and industry experiences.

Share Your Experiences: Discuss the different jobs you have held and the various roles of people you work alongside.

Explore Post-16 Options (Years 10 & 11): Research educational routes together and attend open events.

As a parent or carer, equipping yourself with up-to-date knowledge will build your confidence to guide your child effectively toward the best path for their future. To help you get started, we have put together a selection of useful guides and external resources below:
